free market capitalism, when applied to an economy, is by it's very nature evil. period.
free market capitalism is a method. it is not a philosophy, it is merely a method of counting. f.m.c. allows people to track demand for products, the availability of products, the most economical way to obtain labor and materials and the way to get the highest profit from the sale of the product.
it doesn't matter what the product is. automobiles, medicine, even human trafficking all use the same method. there was a story recently about women being sold for prostitution, who were moved from city to city, the intention being to provide new products to customers and more products to areas where they were lacking supply.
f.m.c. is a method. it can be used anyway the user wants it to. many cite f.m.c. as some sort of "moral" philosophy. that by freeing people to do what they desire they can achieve some kind of spiritual freedom. that the united states itself was founded on that principal. that "free markets" are "freedom". this is completely false. free markets are only the method being used to manage the economy.
health care is the overwhelming example of how f.m.c., applied to the economy is evil. health care is an assemblage of products (medicine) and services (doctor visits) which, in this country are placed in the marketplace for sale. the availability of medicine is controlled by quantity and by patent. the availability of doctors is controlled by limits to the number of people educated as doctors, both by design and the overwhelming costs. These products are then placed for sale, in the marketplace.
there is at no time any factor in f.m.c. which takes into consideration the needs of human beings. free markets will seek out those who have money, and provide them services. many of these services are necessary, life saving procedures. many are merely services intended to make the buyer feel cared for, feel younger or even feel more beautiful. the point is that these services are only available to those who can afford them.
herein lies the evil nature of f.m.c. those people who are ill and those who desperately need medical attention are ignored merely because they do not have the financial resources to get the care they need. the care is bought and sold solely for profit. just like the prostitution ring there is absolutely no concern given to the human factor. there is no concern for the feelings of people. there is no concern for the health of people. there is no concern for the lives of people. all concern is given to those selling their product and their freedom to make a profit.
i firmly believe the continued push to f.m.c. is unsustainable. the human costs far, far exceed any monetary benefits. i believe it is critically important for those people who control this country, and the world as a whole, to wake up and consider the human costs f.m.c. are imposing on societies. they need to find ways to enable people to acheive success without leaving billions of people behind. f.m.c. is only one method. it is not the only method.
Interesting blog, it reminds me of Milton Friedman, the leader of the Chicago school of economics, and the winner of Nobel Prize in Economics in 1976.
